Doina Petrescu is Professor of Architecture and Design Activism at the University of Sheffield.  Her research concerns issues of urban resilience in relation with urban commons, co-production, feminism and politics of space.  She is also co-founder of  Atelier d’Architecture Autogeree with who she has conducted practice based research in participative architecture. Petrescu has conducted 15 interdisciplinary research projects with partners in 20 countries and high standing research outputs. These include: CONECT-Collective Networks for Everyday Community Resilience and Ecological Transition (JPI Urban Europe; 2022-25), Architecture,Biodiversity,Culture (Creative Culture 2022-25), Culture4Resilience (Creative Culture 2021-23), EcoDA (Horizon 2020; 2015-17) R-Urban (Life+; 2011-15 ).  

Her publications include LiveAct (2023) Architecture and Resilience (2018), The Social (re)Production of Architecture (2017),  Learn to Act (2017), R-Urban Act: A Participative Strategy of Urban Resilience (2015), Agency: Working with Uncertain Architectures (2009), Trans-Local Act: Cultural Politics Within and Beyond (2009),  Altering Practices: Feminist Politics and Poetics of Space (2007), Urban/ACT: A Handbook for Alternative Practice (2007) and Architecture and Participation (2005) as well as more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles.
