Key individuals

Erik Matthysen

Professor in Evolutionary Ecology at the University of Antwerp, specializing in movement ecology, landscape connectivity, population viability, and host–parasite dynamics, particularly in bird populations and ticks. Leads projects on innate versus learning-driven spatial behavior (e.g., in great tits), dispersal, invasive bird impacts, and responses to climate and tree phenology.

Sara Vicca

Professor in the Department of Bioscience Engineering, with a background in terrestrial carbon and nutrient cycling, and expertise in manipulation experiments and data syntheses for ecosystem–climate interactions.  Her current research focuses on natural climate solutions, especially enhanced silicate weathering combined with CO₂ removal technologies like biochar.

Eric Struyf

Research manager of the Global Change Ecology Centre

Harun Niron

Co-promoter in sustainability-oriented research within the Biobased Sustainability Engineering (SUSTAIN) group at UAntwerpen.

Leading/co-leading projects on restoring degraded soils while sequestering carbon (RESTOC) and assessing co-benefits and risks of enhanced silicate weathering in agriculture (CORES).
